We have had £7000 taken from our bank account and are having a nightmare getting it back!! We logged the fraud on the 8th Dec and was told that it would take 2-3weeks to get back. Called a number of times to make sure it was being dealt with .. told yes each time. On the 29th made another call to be told, that the fraud had not been logged correctly their end and that it had been overlooked. I have spent days on the phone.. they never call you back .. you get transferred round the houses (this will make you laugh they even transferred me to Liverpool Victoria Insurance claims dept!!!) Still fighting on .. promised another call back tomorrow ..they are a joke ...they are rubbish!!

Have just had £16,500 taken from my business account. Like you, Phil, this puts our business in jeopardy. I am full of rage and terrified that the same will happen with our other accounts although Abbey 'assure' me that if that was to happen the fraudster would have done it at the same time. This happened with £5,000 five years ago but it was resolved and the money returned fairly quickly. And Abbey stopped some other fraudulent action against our account earlier this year. Will be looking for a new business bank account this evening...

Me too. Nothing to do with fraud (so far as I know), but I've been battling to be treated as a human being by this disgraceful excuse for a bank since June 2009, when it came to my attention that they had 'mislaid' a £3,500 ISA I'd been stupid enough to transfer-in in April 2008. To this day (in so far as I can get any response from them at all), they maintain that they never received the transfer – even though the building society which sent it to them has provided me with a copy of their cheque, made out to “Abbey National plc Re: [My Name]”, which was cashed in June 2008.
I've been through the usual channels – the useless “Customer Service” department, the obstructive Complaints department, the Ombudsman, and the poor sods in the branch who get shouted at because of the incompetent, arrogant and contemptuous behaviour of the faceless androids at head office. Now I'm obliged to devote my spare time to writing to the national media and posting comments on every relevant forum I can find.
Basically, Abbey don't give a stuff. Your money would be safer under the doormat.

I transfered £190 to my son’s account (Abbey to Abbey) by telephone banking via India having proved my identity - confirmed my card numbers, date of birth & then two recent transactions! Money received next day and drawn out. 3 days later my son had his card retained by a cashpoint machine showing message “Account Suspended”. On visiting Abbey branch it turned out the money had been debited from an unknown account. My account had not been debited. We both had to attend a branch office with photo identificaction. Their Fraud Dept was rude and wanted 7-10 days to sort out their internal mess. 4 hours on the telephone - problem unresolved. Abbey “Complaints” were very understanding deducted £190 from my account and promised to unlock his account in 10 mins. Two days later account still locked. Three further days later account still locked. My son visited his Abbey branch and phoned “Abbey Complaints” who transfered him to “Abbey Fraud”. Abbey man very rude accused my son of fraud, told him the account had been closed, they did not want him as a customer and for my son never to enter an Abbey branch again. They have kept his money! RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT BANK WITH ABBEY AS IF THEY MAKE AN ERROR YOU WILL PAY DEARLY AND FACELESS PEOPLE WILL LIKELY ACCUSE YOU OF FRAUD WITHOUY FOUNDATION. Not very nice and can be very expensive. Cannot get a name of a senior manager to discuss. Nothing like the old Abbey National.

Did you ever find a resolution to this? I've got something similar happening with certain pdf files - When I try and get them using the following code

I get this dumped out from the ddxVar:

failed: PDFM_S20005: Encountered internal error while processing document "DOC1".

Now this works absolutely fine on CF9 - my dev environment - reads the PDF without error but on CF8 I get the error - which is causing me no end of problems further down the line

In our case, Abbey detected the attempted fraud, prevented it and put a stop on the account. So far, so good.

Then it all went down the pan, fast. Three weeks later, Abbey still have the stop on the account, we can't access our money, we can't pay our bills, they tell us it will take a further four weeks to open new accounts, and, basically, the majority of their staff don't give a *****.

The ombudsman won't get involved until eight weeks have passed, while the FSA don't deal with individual complaints.

I'm blogging about Abbey:

Tweeting about Abbey:

I'm also Facebooking and using the press as well. I'm going to make this into a very, very visible campaign against Abbey.

I was a big fan of Freshbooks but their interface is terrible. They have too much features and it is hard to get around. I have been using Net2Invoice.com - Http://www.net2invoice.com/ and I like how simple they have kept it. You can fax, email and snail mail invoices and estimates. Manage Online Contracts. I simply love it.
