Online CSS Layouts designer

I'm always on the lookout for great tools that aid in the design of my page layouts. Today I came across a site that lets you design your layout online! Its called YAML (Yet Another Multicolumn Layout).

The site describes it as: YAML is an (X)HTML/CSS framework for creating modern and flexible floated layouts. The structure is extremely versatile in its programming and absolutely accessible for end users.

  • Based on web standards
  • Accessible
  • Flexible
  • Easy to use
  • Fully documented

YAML

This system allows for the rapid development of designs with one to three columns, with fixed or variable widths. With subtemplates (flexible grids), the column system can be endlessly nested and expanded. The YAML basis layout can be extended with special containers which help set the layout width or can create a border around the layout. YAML is more than just a simple multicolumn layout. It is an entire layout framework, highly flexible, and tested under real-world conditions with Cross-Browsers Compatibility.

The YAML Builder comes as a beta version v1.0 is now available that allows the visual development of YAML based CSS layouts directly within your web browser.

Create 3D-Box Images for Your Web Applications online

3d package is a 3d-box graphic generator. 3d package lets you instantly create 3d-box images online for free. Just upload pictures for cover and sides and then get 3d-box in you favorite image format (JPG, GIF, PNG supported). You can use it anywhere you like, I think it would be useful when you would like a 3d-box image for your web applications.

P.S. You can also create CD-box and DVD-box easily as well.

Web 2.0 style button with Photoshop

color overlay

As promised, I'm now releasing the psd file (zipped up and available at the downloads link at the bottom of this entry) that allows you to create web 2.0 style buttons easily.

Download and unzip the file and open up the buttons.psd in photoshop.

To change the color of the icon, simply right click as indicated by the red circle and select 'Color overlay'.

You can then use the color selector to change the color to anything you like.

You could also add a logo or shape to your image by creating a new layer above the "highlight" layer and adding a shape with the shape tool.

Cool tool for creating images

Came across this great tool that creates great looking random images from text.

Confused? Well it works by entering some text into a text box, then the website processes this by looking up images in google and using random ones for the background. It then adds the text you entered onto the background to create your final image.

Here is an example of one I created using the words "fearless fusion is great resource".

Finally! A New Design for cfblog

Out with the old and in with the new. I finally decided to update my blogs look and feel. So jumping on the band wagon of web 2.0 icons, I started to re-design the site.

And here it is! It's taken me about 30 hours of work and lots of late nights, but I'm quite happy with it. The hardest thing I find when designing is coming up with an idea. So I spent quite awhile browsing sites to get some inspiration.

I use BlogCFC by Ray Camden (can't wait for version 6 ray), and needed to modify a few bits of code so that the design worked. I also tweaked various files sp that the site now passes the W3C validator for xhtml 1.0 strict.

Within the next few days I'll post a tutorial on how I created some of the graphics and also provide the .psd (photoshop files) for them.

I've still got a little bit of work to do on this and that, but the main bulk has been achieved.

Let me know what you think.
