Wordpress upload error problem
Yesterday I had a strange problem trying to upload images in wordpress. In Firefox I was constantly getting this message using the browser upload function (not the flash version):
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
I googled for a resolution to the error and despite everything I tried, nothing would resolve the issue.
To fault find the issue, I created a simple php file upload test, but again I was getting the same error message.
As a last resort I contacted my hosting company to see if there was a problem with the server and perhaps the tmp directory (where uploads via http are stored) was configured for readonly access or even didn’t exist. I was convinced this must be the issue, but the tech guy, using my test form, had no issues uploading what so ever.
So the problem seemed to be at my end. I then tried to upload a simple text file via firefox and this worked fine. I then tried a binary file and this then failed.
I then opened up my router configuration and looked through the firewall settings.
I have a draytek 2800 and I discovered that I had turned on (for protection) a setting under:
Firewall > General called “Drop non-http connection on TCP port 80″.
Once I switched this off, everything started working correctly.
Anyway I thought I’d post this just in case anyone else had had this problem, check you router firewall settings and save yourself hours of debugging
